Walked over the Bridge of the Gods and crossed the state line into Washington to begin our day. After todays walking, we have less than 500 miles to go. I suppose that should seem like a significant amount, 500 is still a serious walk, but it doesn’t like much. It really feels like we are on the home stretch. A couple of the guys got their plane tickets home already today.
We also crossed the 2181 mile mark. Significant to us, as all four of us have done the Appalachian Trail, and 2181 miles is its length.
Most of the walking today was in the trees. It was a warm and humid day for sure. We were all drenched early in the day. To a great degree, it felt like East Coast hiking – humid, tree covered, deciduous trees, thick undergrowth, crossing roads.
Got a ride into Stevenson Pass from JJs parents and went to the Walking Man brewery for dinner. It was a really good stop. They had great pizzas and one of the most solid group of beers I have had the pleasure to sample.
Got back out to the trail at 9pm and hiked in until the trail went flat, and the guys had a spot to pitch their tents. Trees are plentiful so no problems for hammocking. It is strange starting into the woods in the dark, odd to hop out of a car in the dark of night and start walking. As we were finishing setting up, Calf walked by. We hadn’t seen him in several weeks.
