Had sore backs from the motel bed but we still like the motel stop. A little rejuvenated after showers, laundry and town food.
Saw glowing eyes in the dark when we started walking and thought it was a bear as the eyes were pretty far apart. Trail went towards the glowing eyes so we clanked our poles to scare the animal off.
Had very nice trail today that was fairly flat. One section was pretty cush through a rhododendren forest.
Past by the Rogers Mountain Visitor Center and bought some soda and candy.
Threatened rain all day but only sprinkled untill we got to the shelter. It felt like all we needed to do was put on our raincoats and the rain would stop.
Got to camp early and started a fire in the shelter. This is one of the few shelters with a fireplace built into one of the walls. Here with the same group we have been camping with over the past week. They just got mousetraps and are amped to start their assault on mousedom.
Tonite we are sleeping in the shelter for the first time…hopefully we will sleep good.
Sweetpea melted her shoes by the fire trying to dry them out. Not too big of a deal as they only need to get her another 60 or so miles to Damascus, where she will get new ones. The melting shouldn’t hurt performance, the shoes are starting to rip on the upper just from wear anyways.
