Great weather again today. So many great days in a row that we are getting spoiled. Blue skies, and temp in the 70’s.
Started off the day headed up Smarts Mountain. Had great views at the top and went up the fire tower that sits atop the mountain. Could see a pillow of clouds down in the valley below, which was outstanding.
Ran into a trail angel/maintainer named Slowfoot. He leaves sodas down by a water source, and has good info on water availability and other trail info.
A few miles after that, we met Bill, aka Ice Cream Man. His house is practically on the trail. Bill gives ice cream bars to all thru-hikers and has water and soda available as well. We sat on his front porch for at least a half hour taking in sugary goodness before heading on.
Towards the end of the day, we ran into a guy who had a tumble with some poison sumac and lost. His legs were all wrapped up and he had spent some time in the Hanover emergency room. Sounded like it was quite an ordeal.
The weather looks so good, that we are going to press our luck and not sleep with tarps over our hammocks tonight.
The privy at the site we are staying at is pretty interesting. It is the first completely open air privy on the trail so far. With the very elevated seat it is quite the throne.
Last night in NH.
