Tough night of sleep with the deer. They were all around us last night at the campsite….several walking in between our tents and hammocks and the edges of the area. They are particular interested in the salt left where we relieve ourselves around the edges of the campsite.
Another beautiful day of walking. In the morning we were walking in areas that were really green and lush with gorgeous cliffs. In the afternoon we were walking down and down as we dropped in altitude and were walking along river canyons towards the town of Seiad. It is quite warm down here, having hit in the mid 90s today.
Walked pretty much all day with JJ, and in the last section walked with Massad and SugarHigh, two Israelis hiking the PCT…Interesting is the fact that there were 15 Israelis that started the PCT this year.
Saw a bear as we were getting close to the road. He was swimming across a river and then climbed up the bank we were hiking near but didn’t see him again.
Also saw a rattlesnake for the first time in about 1000 miles. He was right in the middle of the trail and I nearly stepped on him. He scooted off about 3 feet and sat coiled up as we passed.
Today was a notable day for a couple reasons. We now have less than 1000 miles to go, and secondly that we have been on the trail for 90 days.
Tonight we are camped in town at the campground. I picked up my resupply box, grab a soda and chips for dinner and will hit the hay early to get a good sleep for the hike out of Seiad. We will gain just under 5000 feet in 8 miles and it is allegedly an exposed, hot hike….best done in the early am hours.
