Day started off quite cold…but no rain. Got going a little after 7am.
Walked and finished an area that is called the “rollercoaster.” It is a series of consecutive ups and downs that we had begun yesterday. There was some hubbub in the shelter logs about the rollercoaster, but it wasn’t that difficult, at least within the perspective of other stuff that we have already hiked.
Last 6 or so miles were really nice. Smooth terrain with a long gradual up, followed by a gradual down.
Saw deer very close to the trail multiple times. These woods in this part of Virginia are nice…no poison ivy, and a mix of undergrowth amongst hardwood.
We hiked with Mace all day and leapfrogged with Purple and Carnivore. Didn’t see any other thru-hikers. There was a large group (maybe 30) Asian tourist on a day hike.
Got into camp fairly early….around 3:40… Carnivore got a fire going when he and Purple got here. Even with the fire, we are in our hammocks by 7 because of the cold.
