Nov 4 – Roan Mountain

November 4, 2011 by Beardoh

Started day with a healthy climb back up to the ridge. Had a bit of late start waiting out some heavy rain.

Once up on the ridge, it was very windy and cold. The wind was sideways for much of the day and the mountains were socked in with fog. Rain picked up at different times during the day..quite cold and there was some snow on the ground from the evening before. Had a bit of sleet as well.

Probably would have had some views, but the fog never cleared.

We saw 2 bears in the afternoon. Could hear the bear hunters’ dogs howling as well in the pm.

9 of us at the shelter tonight. Good group.

Daily Distance: 23.6
Trip Distance: 1,813.8
