One of the warmest nights on the trail last night. We were camped at the free town camping in Stehekin, right across the road from the lake. None of us slept very good because of the heat…stars were pretty though. Since we were in partial tree cover, none of us had out tarps or tent flies up.
Had my glazed cinnamon roll from the bakery and hung out at the landing for a bit with Sweetpea until the bus was ready to head up to the trail. There was another stop at the bakery during the bus ride, and we all picked up more goodies for breakfast. I think we all put on a couple pounds in baked goods in less than 24 hours.
The hike was all uphill today. A gradual 23 mile climb of a few thousand feet. The grade was so good that after a while I forgot that I was even going uphill. Since we climbed back up to over 6000′ elevation, we are back in cooler temps and my guess is that tonight we will be in the low 40s vs last night which was in the high 60s or low 70s. We were around Derek B and Old Drum quite a bit today, and besides them, did not see any other thru hikers on the trail. Lots of weekenders out in this section today.
Near the end of the day, we ran into Steady and her husband Steve in a trail head parking lot. They were doing trail magic and had sodas, twinkies, candy bars, fruit and other goodies. Great to enjoy that surprise and to see Steady again. Last we had seen her was when we camped with her near Donner Pass in California. She is a triple crowner and was just out doing sections of the PCT this summer.
Tonight it is the four of us and Derek B camped together. I tried something different for dinner. Instead of cooking my Ramen, I just rehydrated it cold and added the flavor packet once the noodles had soaked for 40 minutes. This worked quite well, and I’d do it again, possibly even for lunches the future. I had a snowball for desert which I got from Steady and Steve at the trail magic…Pretty exciting 🙂
