Had a good breakfast at VVR, took the ferry back to the trail and we were hiking by 10.
Went up silver pass, which was one of the first passes that was below treeline, but still above 10000 feet. It was a long steep climb, but we were pretty fresh so it wasn’t too bad.
Lots of blown down trees on the trail…we are getting into that part of the Sierras that was hit really hard over the winter with wind storms. Large trees which can take out decent section of trail as they pile up high. The sections on steep terrain are the toughest to get around when there are blow downs, and probably the most dangerous with regards to twisting ankles and hurting knees, as we need to jump and twist and climb over the branches and trunks.
Tonight we are camped at Purple Lake. Big group here with us four, Lala, Cool Ranch, Estera, Capital, who are hiking the PCT as well and two JMT hikers, Joey and PHill. It was a pretty fun group around the campfire. Qball caught about 8 trout and we boiled them up and everybody had some. Good times.
Happy Birthday Sweetpea!
