Waking up this morning, it really feels like the heat wave is finally breaking. We had great temperatures for sleeping and it was still cool out at 6:30am. Unfortunately, Beardoh was feeling worse this morning…a lot of tummy cramping and nausea.
We packed up and headed out at a slow pace. Within the first four miles, we had taken three long breaks already. It was pretty clear that Beardoh was just not feeling good. We came to a paved road at a trailhead and sat down to decide what we should do. We decided it would be best for Beardoh to see a doctor to find out what has been ailing him.
So, MountainMan continued on and we got a hitch back into the town of Shasta. It is always hard to get off trail when you are feeling sick. Especially when we want to keep hiking with MountainMan. Realistically, we know we can’t just get back on at the same spot we got off on three days later and expect to catch up with him. So, instead, we are planning to skip up to the next town stop and start hiking with MountainMan again from there. That will give Beardoh about three days of rest. Hopefully he will feel better by then. We will come back to this area at some point in the future (later this fall or sometime next summer) and complete the 74 miles we will miss by busing up to Etna.
We are back at the same motel we stayed in a few nights earlier. Beardoh is sleeping the afternoon away, and tomorrow morning we will go over the the walk-in clinic so Beardoh can meet with a doctor.
Finally had time to check in to your website. Sad to hear that Brian is not feeling well. Hopefully it isn’t much more than the YUCKS. Got back from the Grand Canyon a week ago and had a fantastic time. Kids start back to school next week. Take care and be safe.
