PCT 31 – out of a Walker Pass

June 7, 2016 by Beardoh and SweetPea

Daily miles 5
Total miles 657

Spent much of the day in Lake Isabella.   There was an early bus option back to the trail at 5 am,  but we did not want to get up that early.  There was also a mid day option,  but we didn’t want to start in the heat.   Fortunately,  there was a bus that left at 4:55pm and got us to the trail about one hour later…. Perfect for a few miles and getting the climb up from the pass substantially begun and giving us a nice rest in town.  The bus was packed and we were among the last to get seats.   There were about 20 hikers on the bus.

We had breakfast at a nice little coffee shop,  and then hung out in our motel room till noon.   We did our resupply grocery shopping at a small IGA and then grabbed lunch at the Shady Bar.   They had a pool table,  so we enjoyed a couple games of that as well with Mtn Man and XC.

The air had cooled enough and the breeze was strong enough to make the climb out of Walker Pass nice.   We walked 5 miles and came to a campsite where Beardoh had stayed in 2012.  It was the last site,  or flat area for a while,  so we our camped here.

Mtn Man and  XC are camped here as well with at least 8 others.   The site is in a small col that gets a lot of wind.   We can really feel the trees swaying in  our hammocks as they move us around as well.
