Daily miles 21.5
Total miles 59.5
Cool evening last night.
We were hammocked right next to each other and situated far too close, as were bumping into each other most of the night. It was tricky to find a hammock spot at that elevation and in hindsight would have been better off hiking another mile into the trees.
Nice weather for walking at the beginning of the day as we climbed up to the Laguna Mtn Resort and Store. We had a nice breakfast with Lid, Jake, Bubbles and Alexander. They served 5 dollar fritattas which were tasty and we enjoyed talking with our new friends.
Our package was at the store, and after taking some time to sort out food we were off and walking. Our goal was 18 more miles after Mt Laguna and we got started on that a bit after 11.
The rest of the day was super windy. Wind stronger than that either of us had ever experienced. Not sure how strong it was, but it pushed us both off balance several times. We were glad we had our wind shirts with us.
We made it to the Sunrise Trail Head a little after 6. We had some inside knowledge that the privy here was clean and had enough room for two people to sleep on the floor (thank you Safety Officer and Carolyn). Because of the super strong winds, this spot became our destination goal for the day.
There has been nowhere to hammock and very few good places to pitch a tent or tarp. None of which would have been high and dry for the rain that is forecasted for tonight. We will stay dry and out of the wind which takes much of the edge off of sleeping in a privy.
