As we went to bed last night, there was a cloud that started to engulf the campground. Unfortunately for us, that cloud created so much condensation in the trees above us that it was basically raining on us all night. Other hikers camping just 25 feet away didn’t get any rainy conditions. With the strong winds and the rain, our hammock set up ended up getting quite damp.
We enjoyed sleeping in until almost 7:00. The temperature had warmed up quite a bit and as long as we weren’t standing under the trees, we stayed pretty dry. We did start the day hiking in all of clothes, though.
We headed out on the trail a little before 8:00 and quickly warmed up to a good temperature. There were gray clouds overhead all day and a nice breeze, so it was perfect hiking weather.
We walked a lot of the day with MountainMan, which provided a lot of fun conversation. The hours of hiking always seem to fly by when we get lost in a discussion.
The end of the day had a nice surprise in it. The trail angel, Coppertone, who had given us trail magic of pie and ice cream about a week ago, had moved up the trail and was doing trail magic at our last road crossing. So, we got root beer floats and bananas from him. It was great to sit and relax for a bit with him.
Tonight we are camping at a KOA campground. It is a pretty sad little place, but we were able to take showers and do a bit of laundry. We’re now waiting for our Chinese food to be delivered. Our mouths are watering just at the thought of it.
Tomorrow we will get an early start again for a short day into Agua Dulce. There we will meet up with SweetPea’s folks and then spend a few days with SweetPea’s sister and brother-in-law. It will be nice to have some comforts of home and time with family.
