It was so dark this morning as we woke up and started packing. The skies were still overcast, and the canopy of the trees at our campsite seemed to block out all the light. We had to use our headlamps while we packed up, which is starting to happen more.
The trail was wet this morning from the light rain yesterday evening. The wet plants lining the trail meant that our shoes and socks got wet in short order. As the dust from the trail stuck to our wet shoes, they started to look like blobs of dirt.
This morning we saw quite a few large slugs on the trail. They are really large, like a banana slug, but instead of being a yellow/green color, they are dark brown. This makes them look like glistening pieces of poop in the trail…not very attractive.
The morning was spent losing a lot of elevation, and the afternoon was spent gaining it all back. The weather remained overcast and cool, which made the long uphill climb quite pleasant. Luckily, it didn’t rain on us while we were hiking…the forecast shows only one more iffy day of rain before it clears up, so we are keeping our fingers crossed for another dry day tomorrow.
We made it to camp at 6:40pm. It is nice to get in a bit early, so we can get set up, eat, take care of chores and still get to sleep by 9:00. We have started to set our morning alarm, since it is still darkat 5:30am, and it is easy to oversleep.
As we are heading to bed, we can hear the sprinkling of rain starting. Hopefully any rain to come will be over by morning.
