Daily miles – 26
Total miles – 2069
Today was the first day that we did not see another North Bound hiker… Not one. We saw 6 south bound hikers, but no nobos. This made for a quiet day on the trail on an otherwise pretty quiet day. The day was largely spent on the Warm Springs Reservation, which gives the PCT an easement to walk through.
Oregon is reputed to be flat, woodsy (green tunnel), and easy walking. Today was that in spades. The miles came easy enough, we were able to take decent breaks, and there wasn’t much for views – just a glimpse of Mount Hood on a small opening in the trees in the afternoon.
The berry picking was really good with both blueberry and huckleberry bushes regularly found on the trail edge. Many bushes had berries and many of the berries were quite large.
We saw a lot of old signage for the PCT. The oldest signs said Pacific Crest Trail System on them. We theorize that this was before the PCT was a National Scenic Trail.
The air was quite nice all day long with temps in the 70s. This evening it still in the upper 60s, hopefully it cools a little more.
