Good sleeping last night at Little Jimmy Campsite. No bear sightings or issues, even though that spot is known as a bear problem spot.
Decent start to the day with a descent down past the scenic road that goes through the San Gabriel Mtns ( the range that we are in). Had to gain that elevation back as we went straight up after that road crossing.
Had several miles of road walking as there is a detour around an area that has an endangered frog. The road walking was not bad. There was shade along much of it because of the steep banks that were cut for the road, and the traffic was really light…probably because it was a week day. The mileage listed for the day is probably a couple miles more than actual…we are not sure of the true mileage….the detour seems like it shaved some off, but it is tricky to tell..
We met a girl who appears to be the youngest on the trail this year. Monkey, an 8 year old and her mom Heather are thru hiking the trail this year. I believe that Monkey would set the record for the youngest finisher of the PCT if she makes it.
The afternoon was quite hot and we ended up napping under a shade tree in the afternoon. Next time I will blow up my Thermarest and get fully comfy. There were around 12 people taking a similar siesta at the same time near this watering hole.
Water wasn’t too difficult today and the most I carried was 2 liters.
The last part of the hike was through a lot of Poodle Dog Bush, the poisonous plant. The plants were tall and in some places difficult to pass. Tomorrow there is a suggested detour on a forest service road. We will most likely take it as this stuff is hard to avoid in the areas where it is along the trail.
Tonight we are cowboy camping close to an overlook that is quite beautiful. There are about 7 of us here tonight.
