The NorCal portion of the PCT is quite diverse. Still seeing plenty of wildflowers, still in rugged mountains. The color of the landscape can really stand out if a hiker pays attention. The lower elevations (compared to the high Sierra) can make for some very warm sections (climbs out of the Sierra City, Burney, Belden, Hat Creek Rim, Shasta and Seiad Valley in particular). In this area, we enter our last mountain range of the hike – the volcanic Cascade range. The end of this section is a simple sign in the woods marking the end of the state..fairly arbitrary, but quite meaningful to a thru hiker.
