Took several days off in Vernon. Beardo saw a doctor for his shin pain..and we stayed at the church hostel which was quite comfy. Met some more new to us southbounders which was pretty fun, and good to know that we are not at the back of the southbounders alone.
Had hoped to get an X-ray in Vernon, but the machine was out and we wanted to get rolling. Beardo’s shin felt good, so we headed out.
Trail south of Vernon was a mix of flooded areas and not flooded. We walked a good bit on the road as others who had passed through those areas told us of the flooded sections.
Had a stop in Unionvile where we had an ice cream treat and some garlic knots.
Hiking today we met up with Riverdance who had started the same day that we did. Pretty cool to see him after all these miles.
Staying near a cabin that another backpacker owns. There is a well and a shower. Lots of deer coming through the field next to the property as well as mules and turkeys.
Sadly, Beardo’s hammock got mold since we last slept out – before Vernon. The hammock itself was not wet when we last packed up, but the suspension lines were. Sitting bagged up for a few days when we were at the church hostel was a bad thing. We gave it a bath at the cabin, and have it hanging out to dry. Beardo will be sleeping on the floor using the tiny pack pad tonight as a cushion.
Great weather today. Nice sun and high 70’s. Mosquitoes probably the worst that they have been.
