Ended up taking a zero yesterday in Bishop. The US Open (Golf) was on TV so we got distracted with that and frankly it was just nice to relax. We went to the outfitter, Dennys’s, the pizza place and did some food resupply at Von’s. Qball picked up a lightweight fishing setup so hopefully the fish will be biting for the next few weeks.
Took the bus from Bishop to Independence (40+ miles) and then hung out at the Chevron till we got a ride from Sleeping Bare up to Onion Valley where there is a trail head (7.5 miles). Caught up with some hikers there and then started the walking part of the journey to get back to the PCT ( 7.5 miles) . Once at the PCT, we walked a few more and found a site about an hour before dark.
One of the more complete supplies that we have to do. Several hours each way off the trail. We are pretty thankful for the trail angels that are helping shuttle people from the trail head down to the valley. It would otherwise add a real steep and hot climb to the already out of the way resupply. Thanks to Sleeping Bare, UberBitch and Bristlecone (yes, they all choose those names for themselves)
Cowboy camping tonight under a clear sky. A few mosquitos out tonight, but not too bad. We are on what appeared to be the only flat spots over a couple miles. Nice pink and purple skies for the sunset. Should be really pretty from here in the am as the sun lights up the valley below. First night outside using the Thermarest NeoAir on this hike..crossing my fingers that the leaking sleep pad days are behind me.
