Today we crossed the Maine line and entered New Hampshire. Felt good to have our first state completed. Maine pretty much lived up to what we had heard. Lots of roots, rocks, wetness and general degree of challenge. It was great to visit a part of the state that we had not visited before. So many gorgeous lakes, ponds and mountain views. Our knees are ready for less steep ups and downs.
Doddled most of the hot day taking breaks and going slow, but still made it to our intended destination….stealth camping outside of Gorham (first night of stealth camping on this trip for us).
Today marks three weeks on the trail.
Have only seen 2 other Sobo hikers in the last three days. A couple named JTree and Whiskey. It has been good hanging out with them at the campsites in the evenings. We seem to be in front of a bubble of those that started near our start time and behind an earlier start date bubble. People have started to spread out a bit as paces are quite different. Shelters/campsites are frequent enough that the different paces still have a place to stay.
8:30pm and already in the hammock ready to sleep. This is becoming typical.
A quick thought on our food…. We have added a daily Snickers to the menu (usually dessert after dinner), as well as a ramen appetizer before our normal dinner course. We will probably mix up the dinner appetizer, we just wanted a little more food recently, and 1/2 a ramen per person seems to be adequate.
