Left camp this am with a goal of getting to the wayside restaurant, that is 19 miles away, by 4. Beardoh didn’t think it would happen, but he was proven wrong. Started off really strong today and by 10:30am, we had 10 miles in.
Weather was outstanding today. Warm enough that we just wore shortsleeve shirts most of the day. Blue skies, no clouds…some of the day warm, some of it cool, but not cold…just good. Starting to see more color in the leaves just over the past week. Notices on one the of signs for the campground, say that it is full. This weekend will probably bring many many people up for fall foliage, especially since it is a holiday weekend.
Lots of ups and downs today that pretty much exhausted us. By the time we hit the wayside in the afternoon, we were beat, hungry and pooped. Stopping at the waysides are a bit of a trip, as there are families and folks in their nice clothes and smelling good, and we roll in with our dirty packs, dirty clothes and a week overdue for a shower…and smell like it.
We got filled on burgers and fries and blackberry sundaes. Tasted excellent. We have managed to hit a wayside each day since being in the park. We are taking advantage of them since not much of the trail is like this. In fact, we believe that today’s was the last as there are no more south of here.
Beardo and Mace carried some beers from the campstore out to our stealth site which is not too far from one of the parks campsites. We found a great place that has a bit of a view, is right off the trail and doesn’t have much underbrush.
