Got a slow start today as we wanted to let Mike sleep in since he wasn’t feeling well yesterday. Got up and packing around 6:30 and then on the trail by 7:40.
The trail was mostly downhill for the first half of the day. A lot of the time we were walking beside a waterfall. We passed the new ranger cabin that was being built two years ago when Beardoh came through. It is quite nice. We would be pretty comfy living in that. Beardoh asked the gal who was there about the prerequisites to be a ranger. She mentioned that you need EMT training as well as law enforcement training. We were surprised as we didn’t think that the backwoods rangers were law enforcers.
We found a great spot for lunch beside a waterfall with a little pool that Mike, Tom and Mace went for a dunk in. We started the climb towards Mather Pass (but that will come tomorrow) after lunch. Luckily the climb was pretty mellow and we made good time. We found a great campsite and called it a day around 3:30. We had time to do some laundry and sit around chatting. Tom and Mike were in their tents by 6:10 and the rest of us went to bed around 7:00. We typically go to bed very early when we are in camp early, which we don’t mind, especially after such a long day yesterday. It was nice to have a short day today, as Sweetpea’s hip was quite sore. She just keeping telling herself as she’s walking that she is taking it one step at a time, being careful as she walks and taking care of her hip when we take breaks. We are hopeful that her hip will hold out for the whole trail. We planned out the next three days and it looks like it will be quite good with mileage…12, 15 and 16 mile days. There is thunder and lightening, so we expect that we will get rain tonight.
Daily Miles: 11
Total Miles: 148.4
