Jul 28 – Mud Spring

July 28, 2012 by Beardoh

We were not the first folks out of camp as we usually are. There were hikers on the trail an hour before us. Everybody was trying to beat the heat out of Seiad Valley. On the way out of town, we passed the diner where Wolfpack was to take on the pancake challenge – 5 lbs of pancakes in one sitting. Will see him tomorrow when he catches up, and find out how he fared.

Also passed another building with ‘State of Jefferson’ painted on the side. Apparently, this town and some others tried to suceed from the state of California and have their own state in the far north.

The hike up out of the valley was decent, the cool morning helped a lot, and it was well graded. Some poison oak along the way, but not too bad. Walked much of the ascent with Collector, and had lunch with him, Bhope, Malarky, Moonshine.

Tonight camped with Macho Taco, Fairway, Udi, Moonshine, Malarky and JJ. Expect Wolfpack and Qball will catch up tomorrow.

Daily Distance: 30.4
Trip Distance: 1,677.8
