Started out the day with the complimentary breakfast at the motel, then headed up the climb out of town.
We were up on a ridge for most of the day with some ups and downs. The major climb was to McAfee Knob. At McAfee Knob we could see the whole day’s hike…a first. Neat to see all the ridges and mountain that we had climbed over the day from the highest peak in the area. McAfee Knob is where so many of the classic AT photos are taken…..the contemplative hiker stands on the rock outcrop looking over the mountain scene below.
Weather has warm today, a bit too warm. We hear that cooler weather is coming, hopefully we won’t freeze.
From McAfee Knob Beardo ran ahead to get food at the post office before it closed. He was cutting it close timewise but he made it. Thanks to Justin who picked him up near town and gave him a ride back to the trailhead.
Camped on top of a ridge with nice views but windy…had to change hammock position so tarp wouldn’t be blowing wildly into the hammock. A pretty beautiful site where we can see some town lights as well as the mountain across the valley.
