Got an early start again and were off and rolling a bit after 7. Unfortunately, the rain kicked in early as well and was pretty drenching within the first hour. Too bad as the night was dry for the most part.
Sun started to show around 10am. It is quite a mood changer when the blue skies appear and we can see our shadows once again. The rest of the day we enjoyed great weather. After 4 days of clouds and low light, we were thrilled for the change.
Sadly, our buddy Mace stepped off the trail today. He has had some back issues that started a few days ago and the issues continued to get worse. We hope he is able to get in for some chiropractic help and get back out on the trail. It’s been great hiking with him for the past couple weeks and we hope this is not the end his journey or our journey with him.
Finally got some views today! It has seemed like we have climbed to some places that should have had great views but were just fog. Today that changed. Some excellent ridge walking that overlooked river valleys below.
Tonight we are camped at the Matthews Creek shelter with another Southbounder named Periwinkle, who we just met yesterday. Good hammocking close to the shelter and river.
