John Muir Trail Photos 2018

December 16, 2018 by Beardoh

The JMT.  I love this trail.  I aim to hike it (or in the near vicinity) every two years for the foreseeable future – whether that be doing either the JMT alone or as part of the PCT or something (hmm – Theodore Soloman’s Trail?).  I love the blues of the Sierra Nevada sky, the many lakes, the awesome rock, the big battered trees, the ample hammock hangs, the cool nights and much more.  When I first hiked through on the PCT in 2018, I decided that this area of the world was the most beautiful that I had experienced up to that point. With several years and thousands more trail miles, it remains my favorite place in the world…maybe I need to make the commit an EVERY year commitment?

My journal from this hike is here -> John Muir Trail 2018 Journal

Our journal from our 2014 JMT hike is here -> John Muir Trail 2014 Journal

Our favorite photos from our 2014 hike are here – > Tahoe Rim Trail 2014 Photos

OUR FAVORITE JOHN MUIR TRAIL 2018 PHOTOS

Below are some of my favorite photos from the hike.  There are many more within the journal.

Day 1.  Sierra sky and withered, wind battered tree.
Day 2. Approaching Mt Whitney
Day 3. The wide tundra-like expanse
Day 4. Looking north from Glen Pass.
Day 5. Along the lakes north of Mather Pass.
Day 6. Looking into LeConte Canyon from the side trail up to Bishop Pass.
Day 7. Mountains near Bishop Pass
Day 8. Enjoying the brilliant blues north of Muir Pass at Wanda Lake
Day 9. Waldo and Al. Al has done every National Scenic Trail and I believe he is in his 80s.
Day 10. Great hang for the night with a view of Lake Virginia.
Day 11. With Endless and QB at Red’s Meadow for resupply
Day 12. Near Thousand Island Lakes…the wind was real
Day 13. Looking north from Donahue Pass towards Tuolumne Meadows
Day 14. Early on the descent to Yosemite Valley.
