Foggy and misty start to the day, didn’t really have any visibility with the headlamps in the dark. Could have waited to head out because of the visibility, but we were awake and cold outside of our sleeping bags so we headed out. The trail was not confusing so it worked out fine.
Day was foggy until the afternoon, and then cleared up and warmed up a bit.
This was a stretch of trail that we had done last fall. It was nice to see some familiar landmarks and terrain.
Went over Max Patch but it was cold and windy and icy. Last year we had sat down and had lunch there, but today we just kept walking through as there was not much to see and we wanted to keep moving to stay warm.
Made good time today, and made it into the hostel around 3:30. Fairly rustic hostel, where the clothes washing was with a tub and a wringer. Got a hot shower which felt great as the last one was 8 days ago.
Looking forward to entering the Smokies tomorrow…will have a very large elevation change getting up to the park.
Saw no other hikers on the trail today.
