Rainy start to the day….and it rained hard for much of the day.
We had a fairly short day as we needed to head into Montebello to pick up a maildrop. Had both food as well as some replacement suspension for Beardo’s hammock…his was getting fairly worn.
Our main thing to hike was the remainder of The Priest. It was a long steady, sometimes steep climb, with unfortunately no views as it was so foggy. Probably would have been gorgeous on a clear day. The trail up was good with switchbacks and just generally good trail building. We were glad to have only half the climb to do since the weather was pretty poor.
We stayed at a hostel called the Dutch Haus near Montebello. The hostel was very, very good. Very cozy and comfortable. It is actually a B&B that has a good hiker rate. The food was top notch and the hosts were great. Upon arriving, they issue a terry cloth robe so you can get out of wet, dirty clothes and can get hiking clothes laundered.
We were there with a record setting number of Southbounders for the evening……8. Along with us was Mace, Sundowner, Columbus, Turtle, Jonesy and Buzz Lightyear. It was great to hang out with this group in such a great place. We celebrated Sundowner completing the AT with some Yeungling beer.
