Had heavy rains overnight, but rain had pretty much finished by the time we were packing up our gear. We headed down Greylock with hopes to get breakfast in a small town named Cheshire, but were out of luck as the place that we had heard about wasn’t yet open for the day. The AT goes through town for about 1 mile. We made a wrong turn as we missed the white blaze, and that was actually fortuitous. We had not been able to find denatured alcohol for our cookstove at any of the gas stations, but our side trip took us past a hardware store that sold it by the ounce.
Later on in the day we landed in Dalton, which is another town that the AT goes right through. We stopped and had lunch and ice cream at a little place. We stayed for a couple hours as it was warm out and we had already done 14 miles by 1:30pm. While we were there our friend Qball showed up so we chilled with him for a bit as well. Our plan had been to continue on for another 3 miles out of town, but after calculating how long it had been since we had last washed clothes and how long before we would get a good chance to do so again, we decided to stay in town and get a shower and do laundry.
