Nov 17 – Into Carter Shelter

November 17, 2011 by Beardoh

Late start to the day as we needed to get shuttled to where we left off the day before, which was up a winding mountain road. Got on the trail a bit after 9am. Our package never showed at the NOC, so we ended up getting food supplies at a convenience store.

Skies had cleared overnight and the day was much nicer than yesterday. Colder, but generally quite good hiking weather. The trail was excellent walking and just had rolling up and down the mountain ridges. Had some nice views for the first time in a few days.

Saw Wrong Way again. We had seen him in Harpers Ferry at the end of October. He is midway in his circumnavigation of the US. He biked from Oregon to Maine, and is hiking the AT, and will bike from Florida to California and then hike the PCT in the spring. Awesome trip!

At the shelter with Sensei, Goldfish, Buzz and Easy. We are a few miles out of synch with the Brothers3, but should be back in synch in a couple of days.

Very cold this evening. In our sleeping bags by 6:30. Probably won’t be starting off as early tomorrow because of the cold. Will most likely get down to the 20s or lower, if it isn’t already. We could see our breath all day long while hiking.

Daily Distance: 21.8
Trip Distance: 2,088.4
