Got an early start in the dark today. Had a rock hop right at the beginning, in the dark, that Sweet Pea was worried about the night before, but it proved to be no problem for her.
Met some interesting folks on the trail today. A couple day hikers who were carrying sidearms…which is a first. Met a trail maintainer who had been caring for a section of trail for 16 years. Also met a lady who is an excited new Trail Angel and gave us some water at a dry shelter. She was super excited to meet thru-hikers and shook both of our hands.
Had great weather today. A bit on the chilly side at times which makes for ideal hiking weather. Tonight we are sleeping in a valley, so temps should be reasonably warmer than they were up on the mountain. Sun was out all day today and blue skies.
We continued to enjoy excellent trails. Nice switchbacks on the climbs, one of which took us to over 4000′.
Quite a few day and short term hikers out, probably since it was a weekend and great weather.
We had a pretty steady day of hiking to get the miles so we could get to town earlier to get food. Took a few short breaks and a reasonable lunch, but didn’t dilly dally too much at lookouts or summits…they were chilly as well.
Beardo sat in some pine sap and now has sappy pants.
The shelter that we are hammocking near is a three decker and holds over 20 folks. Just one hiker in it tonight.
