Nov 9 – In and Out of Hot Springs

November 9, 2011 by Beardoh

Fast 9 miles into town today. Mostly downhill. Was breezy the night before. Tarp set up worked well.

Hit the outfitter in Hot Springs. Got blaze orange caps and replacements for Beardos socks. Also got a dose of political ranting from the locals at the outfitter, which we did our best to close our ears to….it has been a true delight to miss all the politicing, and useless opinions that we hear when the campaigns begin.

Saw SoWay, another southbound hiker that we hadn’t seen since Monson, ME.

Had a good breakfast at the local diner with most of the group that we have been walking with. Good hiker portions for the price.

Steep 10 miles up coming out of Hot Springs. The town stops are killer that way, it is always down the mountains to the town to fatten up and then back up the mountains out of town with a full belly…tough.

Got in just at dark, and had a fire going quickly. Sweet Pea had picked up hot dogs (lots of them) and we cooked them on sticks over the fire. It has been so long since we had done that. We had been talking about getting some and packing them out after a town stop but have been forgetting for 1900 miles! It was the Brothers3, Rorschach and us at the shelter. It started raining shortly after arriving at camp.
