Heavy rains overnight, but had stopped by morning. We had a fairly late start of 7am.
Trail down into North Adams was reasonable with a short stretch of very sketchy terrain over some wet boulders where it was fairly obvious the trail makers took the easiest path between two ends to make a trail. Interesting start to Massachusetts.
The trail comes into North Adams down someone’s driveway. Some northbound folks had mentioned this was tricky for them to find, for us going south, it felt like we were popping out into someone’s backyard.
Broke Beardo’s rule and hit Friendly’s for breakfast….it was alright, its hard mess up an omelette, and finished things off with a Sundae at 10am.
Back on the trail with full bellies, we headed up Mt Greylock, the tallest mountain in Massachusetts. It is a steep climb up from the north side. Had some views on the way up and met several northbounders who were slackpacking.
At the top we got some ice cream and sodas in their gift shop and talked with some city folk that were impressed that we had walked there from Maine.
Made it to camp feeling wiped out. Just cooked and hit the hammocks. One of the few times that we didn’t socialize with folks at the shelter during dinner….but we were pretty beat.
