Great Divide Trail Photos 2018

November 4, 2018 by Beardoh and SweetPea

We learned about the Great Divide Trail back in 2013 when Beardoh was creating some overview maps for Cam Honan’s 12 Long Walks talks.  Over the few years since, the trail has become increasingly popular.  We wanted to hike this trail when we could do it during the ideal season, and this year we were able to so.

Our journal from this hike is here -> Great Divide Trail 2018 Journal

Our trail debrief, which has some general impressions for future GDT hikers is here -> Post Hike Thoughts on the GDT

OUR FAVORITE GREAT DIVIDE TRAIL PHOTOS

All of our photos can be seen throughout the various pages of our journal.  Since we enjoy taking a quick look at the photos now and then, we’ve put them up here so others can enjoy in a quick glance.

The first of many bear prints on the trail
A beautiful yellow Columbine
The Three Musketeers
Mace loving the wide open views as we got closer to Peter Lougheed
The “Magic Hour” with amazing light
We called them Banff Lollies even though we saw them the whole trail
Lower Elk Lake in the morning calm
View of Lake Kananaskis in the early morning
The beautiful lakes were always a welcome sight
The colorful wildflowers were out in full force
Looking north from Pulsatilla Pass
An awesome morning around the campfire with new friends
Enjoying the views before encountering all the day hikers out of Lake Louise
Looking over the moonscape of North Molar Pass
Some cairns were very artistically constructed
One very chubby marmot
Yeah! Our first Grizzly sighting!
Raspberries galore!
Pinto Lake reflecting the neighboring mountains
Rewarded with a great view from Cataract Pass
A fun evening with the Edmonton crew
We came across caribou antlers on a very smokey day
Enjoying the views on the Skyline Trail
All smiles on the Skyline Trail
The many zigs and zags of the river
This elk wasn’t impressed by us at all
One of the many fords of blue glacial rivers
Ending the GDT on another smokey day
