GET Day 3: Reavis Canyon

April 7, 2018 by Beardoh and SweetPea

Daily Miles: 13

Total Miles: 48

Well, the cows finally found us around 2:30am, but we scared them off and luckily they didn’t come back.  SweetPea was able to sleep better last night, but Beardoh was still up multiple times during the night to blow up his neoair sleeping pad.

We were on the trail just after six this morning.  Even though we were planning for a short day, we still wanted the early start so we could have most of the afternoon to relax, plus, with the heat we really prefer to hike as much as we can in the morning.  Plus, SweetPea’s knee was still bothering her, so we knew we would be taking a slower pace.

After three miles, we came to a spring where the trail steward for this section had stored a canvas bucket and some rope so hikers could easily get water, even though it is a ways down in a cemented area.  The system worked great and we each got two liters for our final ten miles.

As we were stopped for a break later in the morning, two day hikers came by and one of them turned out to be the trail steward who had provided the bucket and rope.  It was really good to meet him and to be able to thank him for his work on the trail.

Today continued to be really hot with an unrelenting sun.  The trail is so exposed with almost no place to find shade.  Whenever we found shade, we would stop for a bit of a break.  We have been trying to plan for having one liter of drinking water for every 4 or 5 miles we hike, but we are often still feeling thirsty with that amount.

We ran into an AZT hiker today who is heading north.  It was our first hiker to meet on the trail and it was fun to talk with him and hear about his experience so far.

We made it down to the Picketpost Trailhead by 1:30pm, and could see our friends pulling into the parking lot just as we were coming to the road…perfect timing!  They had cold wash clothes for us to cool down with and cold drinks as well.  It was so great, because we were so hot and had just finished the last of our water.

It is good to be clean and cool and relaxed again.  Beardoh’s ankle, arch and knee are en route to recovery.  SweetPea is resting her knee and Beardoh is in town searching for a new neoair that hopefully won’t leak.  We’ll have to see how SweetPea’s knee is doing tonight and take things from there.

A BEAR! I didn’t think that would happen this early in the year.

Finally taking a look at the market after a couple weeks out and rolling both our puts and calls before expiration tomorrow.

      Keep earning in whichever direction!

Thanks Mace! Aches and pains are working out. But , man, these blisters are nuts. Too much heat and scrambling on rocks – different than the other trails for sure. Hope you and Sherri are well!
