Had a long climb up to Forester Pass to start the day. This pass is the highest point on the PCT at over 13000 feet (Mt Whitney is actually a side trip and not on the official route).
Temps were good all day, even on the pass….little breeze and we were comfortable enough to hang out for awhile. Views were outstanding going up and down the pass, with views of mtn lakes from both sides. Usually this is a very snowy climb and decent, but we only had a few small sections of a couple hundred feet of snow to get through.
After summitting the pass we had 10 miles of down hill. Met some other hikers including a couple from Big Bear Lake, CA that told us a bunch about fishing in the area. They were fly fishing and baitcasting for trout.
Ended the day with a climb that gets us part way up Kearsarge Pass (our exit off the PCT to resupply). We are camped near lake where there are a lot of little trout hitting the flies at the surface of the water. Many people camped here tonight, probably 15…only half are PCT hikers, others are folks fishing.
