On leaving Caratunk, one needs to take a ferry across the Kennebunk river. The ferry is a canoe which shuttle hikers across two at a time, and runs in the morning from 9-11.
The day had mostly flat hiking and because of the ferry, most hikers were starting around the same time, which had us leapfrogging each other all day. We met some new folks that had started a bit before us.
We camped with just one other hiker at a campsite on Flagstaff Lake. It was beautiful, with a pebble beach and great views. There was a great sunset, and probably the best privy on the trail yet. Crazy white flies down at the lake that would lands by the dozens.
