Good sunrise when we were getting ready in the morning. Views of Mt Shasta from the campsite.
Lots of climbing for the day. We were pushing a bit to make sure we made it to the post office in Etna before it closed. Didn’t really take a lunch, just a few short breaks at the top of the climbs.
Mid day, we ran into Train, another thruhiker. He is wearing wedding dresses the entire hike. He gets a different wedding gown sent out each week. It is quite a sight, as he is over 6′ and has a handle bar mustache.
We hit the 1600 mile mark of the trail. Lots of miles in recent weeks. Since our break for the fourth of July, we have done 512 miles in that 18 day stretch since. Today (the 25th) we are taking a zero day which feels good after the steady stretch of pushing our legs.
The trail crosses the road about 10 miles from town, so we hitched in. The first car that passed drove by, the driver shrugged, and then they backed down the road to where we were standing. We sat in the innertubes they had in the back and they had drinks for us in their coolers. What a great hitch!
