Got an early start and made good miles for the day. No long aggressive climbs for most of the day. Through the morning and mid-day we were mostly just walking rolling (rolling Maine style still has a few rock scrambles) terrain.
Shortly after lunch we came upon the very picturesque Long Pond. There was a sand beach there so we went swimming. It was very refreshing. Felt great to be in the water on a warm day. Maine has so many beautiful ponds and lakes along the trail.
The terrain at the end of the day was not so mellow. We climbed up to the Bemis Mountain Lean-To. That climb was very steep for about 2 miles with a lot of rock scrambling.
We are here at the site with 2 section hikers, about 15 young girls from Montreal and Mace, who we were at the last site with. Mace is from the Midwest and is thru-hiking as well. He got his trail name when a friend accidentally sprayed him with bear mace in the 100 Mile Wilderness.
