Decided to break up the last 20 miles in the Presidentials into two days as one day would have been ultra tough and gotten us out of the woods very late.
Started the day with some great cinnamon roles and oatmeal at the Zealand Falls Hut. Sleep wasn’t too bad on the hut’s floor. The night was a great temperature for sleeping. After doing some sweeping at the hut for our work-for-stay, we headed up Zealand Mountain. It was steep and hot and we were soaked with sweat quickly. We were hiking up and over some of the smaller mountains getting some nice views and ended up at Galehead Hut around lunchtime. They had some very good lentil soup for $ 2/bowl and we had that and some bread. We weren’t in a hurry to get anywhere far in the afternoon, so we chilled out in the hut and played cards with Cueball.
We got to the Garfield Ridge tentsite in the mid-afternoon and just relaxed and hung out with the caretaker. It was good to sleep in our hammocks again and have that comfort. The night was windy and the trees that our hammocks were tied to really were pushed around…but still good sleep.
