Early start in the dark today. Really foggy. The spiders worked very hard last night creating their cobwebs. The trail was full of them, and since we were rolling early, we got cobweb faces.
Made it to Duncannon for lunch where we went to the well known hiker stop called ‘The Doyle.’ We had lunch and a couple beers there…chatted with the owner and other southbounders. We both had BBQ brisket sandwiches, fries and mac and cheese…really good food.
The owner of the Doyle took Sweet Pea to the grocery store and Beardo worked on the computer back at the Doyle.
Hiked out the last four miles to the first shelter out of town where we found Pick Axe Will. Beardo had met Pick Axe Will just before his shin splints started in. Shelter is full tonight with other southbounders that we know and have been playing leapfrog with for over a week now.
The section out of Duncannon is mentioned in the guidebook as being particularly rocky. This does not seem to be the case at all.
Weather was great for the latter half of the day. By the time we walked out of the Doyle to head back to the trail, the skies had cleared, the sun was out and it was even a bit hot.
