Last one out of camp this morning. It has become real easy for me to drag my tail in the mornings. I used to be the first one up at the beginning of the trail, but not any more. I guess I have a lot more confidence in the ability to do the miles at this point and don’t feel like we need to get rocking as early. May actually try and get out of camp by 7 tomorrow.
Walking today was a lot like the mid Atlantic state section of the Appalachian Trail. Several steep climbs to spots without a view….as well as crossing powerlines. Most of the tread was soft which was good, which made up for some of the seemingly pointless climbing.
Midday, we came upon some trail crews…and at there camp, we were given some donuts, soda and fruit. Was a great treat right around lunch time, and as per usual with trail magic, a great surprise.
Discovered the joy of huckleberries on the trail today. I started later than Wolfpack and JJ, and then took a couple extra breaks in the afternoon, so by the evening I was hustling to camp to make sure I could get a fire going and cook before dark. As I am cruising down the trail, the huckleberries were everywhere. It was hard to keep moving fast as they were ripe and a good size.
Camped tonight with JJ, Wolfpack, Calf, Moonshine and Analog. The last three just made it into camp now at 9pm.
