Jul 6 – Desolation Wilderness

July 6, 2012 by Beardoh

Back on the trail after some R & R at Wolfpack’s parents place. They were great hosts and really spoiled us with some outstanding food. Thanks Steve and Terrie!

Got back on the trail at about 12:30. Beautiful day as well. Lots of day hikers in the section of trail that we walked today. We were surprised as it is a weekday.

Walking was fairly rugged. List of rocks and large gravel. We had a lot of walking along large ponds and lakes. Climbed a 9000′ pass towards the end of the day.

I switched clothes while we were in town. I ditched my pants and long sleeve shirt for running shorts and a lightweight t shirt that I picked up cheap at Old Navy. My pants and long sleeve shirt were just getting nasty and didn’t really get clean after washing. Also, I felt like I was staying sweaty for so long in those clothes. Now I will rely on my long john top and bottom for mosquito protection once we arrive in camp. The mosquitoes were aggressive tonight and the long johns worked well, so….so far, so good.

Tonight we are camped at Dick’s Lake just north of Dick’s Pass. Pretty beautiful setting here.

Daily Distance: 15.2
Trip Distance: 1,092.6
