Night on the foot bridge went just fine. Tons of stars out and it was probably the warmest night on the trail. Some hikers passed by at 3:30 am, not sure what they were doing up that early.
About 6 miles into the walk we came upon Deep Creek hot springs. These were pools of very hot water just above a river. It was excellent. We spent hours here sitting in the hot spring pools and then jumping in the cold river water. Very hard to leave. Definitely a highlight of the trip thus far.
We continued on through the canyon for several more miles in the heat. Not really any shade, unfortunately.
Around 2:00 we came to a trail head and there was some excellent trail magic. Trail angel Shepard was making hot dogs and beans and coleslaw for hikers under a shade tree. Also had a beer and root beer float and an ice cream cone…very hard to leave, especially with it being so warm in the sun. We are really grateful to trail angels like Shepard…thanks so much.
Once we got rolling, we were hiking pretty fast. A cloud was blocking the sun and that made a big difference in the pleasantness of the walk. Came upon a little snake that shot toward me…but I don’t think he was dangerous.
Tonight we are sleeping under a bridge in a really windy canyon. Was very hard to find a place to camp. Hopefully we won’t be too dusty in the am. Just 5 of us here tonight, wolfpack, JJ, Qball, peanut.
