Blueberry pancakes at the cabin were great this morning. If only everyday started like that out on the trail.
We got a late start because of the pancakes, which was tricky as we wanted to do over 20 today. Weather cleared and it was gorgeous all day with mild temperatures in the 70’s.
Stopped in Tyringham for our maildrop, which was prepared excellently (thanks Kelly). We even got a hitch into town without trying. An older fellow just pulled up in his pickup and said to hop on the back for a ride to the post office. While we were at the post office a couple elderly ladies were quite interested in Beardo’s beard. One said it was “beautiful,” which is a definite first.
Had some walking along the edge of farm fields over looking a river valley…..which is always a welcome change from walking in the green tunnel. Came across a great blackberry patch…could have made pie with all of the berries we ate.
Ended the day on a bad note….Beardo slipped and twisted his ankle pretty bad….enough to hear some noise in it as he went down. Luckily Sweet Pea was within earshot and we had just passed a shelter with water less than 1/2 mile before. Beardo hobbled back there (hiking poles were very helpful here) and Sweet Pea got his hammock up and got the ankle elevated. There is no bruising, but there is quite a bit if swelling. We will see how things are tomorrow, and decide if we need to take a day or more off.
