Windy night last night, could hear the tarp flapping in front of the shelter much of the night.
Had a good sunrise through the trees.. glad we got up early. We are nearly always the first ones up and out of camp, and sometimes it is hard to get out of the sleeping bags, but it is great to see the sunrise most days.
Summitted Clingmans Dome, which is the highest point on the AT. It was pretty anti-climatic, it is not above treeline and was a wooded summit. Unfortunately, it was cloudy and the sun wasn’t out, but it was cool to see the mountains that we have been climbing.
Super windy for most of the day. Climbing, we were hot, and descending or on top of the mountains, we were quite cold. had a lot of short and steep ups and downs. Overcast for most of the day, but no rain.
Met two new southbounders, Natedawg and Sweet Tea. They flip flopped and will he finishing at Springer soon.
In the middle of the day we saw a wild boar. It was big and black and at first we thought it was a big bear. It was about 150 feet away and took off fairly quick after spotting us. We had forgotten that they were out here. Exciting to see a new (at least to us) animal in the wild.
Got in to the shelter a little after four, and grabbed fire wood. Just southbounders at the shelter tonight. There are 12 of us.
