We only had a few miles into town, but we will got up at our usual time. We’ve gotten used to waking up in the dark, and we like being on the trail at dawn.
The reroute of the CDT that we started yesterday continued into the town of Cuba. The first two miles this morning were pretty new construction of a switch backed trail. It looked like the work was pretty recent and that it would have been quite a lot of work to do on this very steep and rocky slope. We are always impressed with the trail work done.
The last four miles into town were on paved roads. Definitely not our favorite thing, but it didn’t last forever. Beardoh kept his pole out even on the road, since we had several barking dogs run down to us on the road. Luckily none of them tried to bite us, but we never know what to expect as they make a beeline down to us.
Once we got into town, we tried to be very efficient with our time. We picked up breakfast at McDonalds, went to the laundromat, went to the post office while the clothes were in the washer, then packed up and went to the grocery store and finally made it to our motel. We made it to the motel before noon, so we had the rest of the day to relax and deal with all the town tasks we had made for ourselves.
