As we packed up this morning, we could hear thunder rumbling, even though the sky didn’t look too bad. Once we walked out of our little campsite and got around a hill, we could see the very dark and ominous sky. We were hopeful that the strong wind would push the rain away from us, but we did get hit with a quick round of hail and rain. We were out in an open field when it started and we soon saw a flash of lightening, so we hustled ourselves into a stand of trees.
Luckily the rain didn’t last long. We were all chilled from the rain, so we kept our rain gear on for awhile, even when the rain was done. We got a few more sprinkles over the next hour or two, but then the sky cleared up and we had a really beautiful day.
The hiking today was great again. A lot of good trail, and gradual inclines and declines. It felt like a lot of the trail today has been engineered, instead of just putting posts in the ground to indicate a trail, without actually doing anything to the ground.
We got to our dinner spot around 4:30pm and figured we would have trees for hanging for only another half mile or more. So, once we were done with dinner, we walked about a half mile and then saw a spot that was too good to pass, so we had another early finish.
We are getting spoiled by these early evening stops. At some point, we will probably need to be hiking later into the evening, but for now, we are thoroughly enjoying the relaxing time at camp.
