CDT Day 62 – Pinedale

August 22, 2020 by SweetPea

Date: 8/22/20

Daily Miles: 8

Total Miles: 1089

We decided to set our alarm for this morning…the first time in a few days. As usual, we wanted to get into town in time for a second breakfast.

The trail felt so quiet and still this morning as we set out. After the busy nature of the trail yesterday evening, it was nice to have the trail to ourselves for an hour or so. Soon enough, we could hear the other campers along the trail waking up and we started to see a few people hiking in the same direction as us.

When we had just a few miles left to the trailhead, we started to see the folks coming in the other direction. There were lots of people (and even a bunch of horses) heading up into the mountains.

We made it down to the trailhead by 9:50am and flagged down the first car that came by (a Sprinter Van) driving out of the parking lot. We asked if he was going into Pinedale and if we could get a ride. It feels great to get a hitch within two minutes of getting down to the road. It turns out that the guy had hiked a large section of the PCT, so he understood the plight of a hiker needing a hitch.

He dropped us off at a cafe where we had a nice breakfast and just relaxed for a bit before heading over to our hotel. We’re looking forward to a day and a half of rest and of being clean.

Thanks guys. I have been following from Australia since you started. I can see where my next adventure is going to be, though I have to admit the bears scare me.
