CDT Day 47 – South San Juan Wilderness

August 5, 2020 by SweetPea

Date: 8/5/20

Daily Miles: 22

Total Miles: 821

It was relatively warm this morning when we got up, but it felt so dark. It definitely feels like we are losing daylight everyday. We don’t notice it so much in the evenings, since we are usually asleep before it’s dark, but we do notice the change in the morning.

Today was not such a great day for Beardoh. His stomach wasn’t good overnight, and continued to be a problem today. Feeling sick also just made him extremely tired. He had to use nature’s bathroom multiple times today and would just lay down and close his eyes whenever we took a break. He was happy to make it to camp this evening and finally be able to just lay down in his hammock. Hopefully he’ll be feeling better tomorrow.

The day felt like there were a lot of climbs and descents. For the most part, they were all pretty gentle. A lot of the day was spent above tree line. Luckily it wasn’t very hot today. We even got some grey clouds in the late afternoon that brought a few showers.

We ended up putting up a tarp for dinner, but the rain had mostly stopped by then. It was still nice to be able to cook and eat without having to worry about getting wet.

We made it to camp around 7:20pm. Our campsite is pretty nice, as it is near the edge of a drop off over a valley. We have nice views and even saw the sunset.
