Had a good nights sleep. I wake up less during the night while sleeping in the hammock…usually just once in the morning hours just before my alarm is about to go off, and that is about it.
Other than poison oak, the trail was nice walking. We had a 5 mile climb which gained a good deal of elevation, but that was the most challenging part of the walk. We ran into a trail crew who was working on a nice section of trail, raking it out. Rarely do we find crews working on sections of trail that are in rough shape. It is odd, especially after getting our legs pretty chewed up two days ago in the manzanita brush, and the difficulty in avoiding the poison oak. Nevertheless, happy that these folks are out maintaining the trail.
Got some nice views of Shasta for a short bit. Sky was clear, so hopefully the photos will turn out well.
Could feel a bit if aching in my shin today so I wrapped it with an ace bandage. Hopefully the ache will go away quickly. It doesn’t feel quite like shin splints, but I will wrap it is a precaution regardless.
Got into Castella around 5 pm after following the train tracks into town from the PCT. Got a beer and a bag of chips, had some Triscuits and bean/cheese dip for dinner as well as some sorbet and picked up my resupply package.. There is a gas station with convenient store and that is it…very small town. Tonight we are staying in the Castle Crags State Park campground right next to Interstate 5 with Yardsale, Scrambled Legs, Maple, and Just John….really nice group. Bummed that some are taking a few days off the trail from here, as we may not see them again.
